“M”ersistent Followup

Posted by Sri Prasath Venkateswaran on May 31, 2006

Yesterday I called one of my friend at his office in the morning. The phone attender intimated me he got into a meeting and asked me to call after 2 hours. (Damn thing is that guy has switched off his mobile)

So I called his office again in the afternoon. I had been told he went for lunch and asked to call after 1 hour(Lunch @ 12:30 something strange)

Again I called up office by 2:00pm, this time I have been intimated that he again got held up in meeting.

Atlast, I got into my own business and called the same guy by around 7PM.

You know what answer I got from him?????

"Muchan naan innaiku officeku pogalada"

The other side of Programmers

Posted by Sri Prasath Venkateswaran on May 30, 2006

Yesterday I met an HR Manager from a reputed IT company. During the interaction with him, I came to understand the other side of Computer Programmers.

The average attrition rate in IT and ITES is whopping 70% and 63% percent respectively. Among these, the hit ratio of quality is mere 5%. Companies spend a lot in training these programmers.

But after a period of 2 to 3 months they are putting down their papers for the mere reason for getting a salary hike from a competitor company.

The most shocking fact is that nearly 95% of the switchers does not have basic knowledge about programming. All that they do regularly is that they download some free code available, imbibe with the current module and tell that they developed the entire project.

In their CV, these guys this and that and they cannot be able to explain what the functionalites of the project and their role in the project.

A MCA Graduate with 2 years of experience has been asked to explain OOPS concept. He blinked and cross questioned the HR Manager "What is that?". The HR manager astonished.

Whooping Salary and good designation must be part of growth for the loyalists not for the switchers.

SBI Creditcard Mess!!!!

Posted by Sri Prasath Venkateswaran on May 29, 2006

It happened a month before. A Salesperson from SBI-Creditcard division called me up,asked if am i interested in going for a SBI Credit card. I told him that i already have one. He thanked me and hung up. After 2 days, the same person called up. I replied him the same answer.  Again I had a phone call from the same person and pleaded me to help him out. Due to his continous tortured follow-up, atlast I decided to go for a credit card. He asked for last month current creditcard statement and my PAN no.

Being 15th, I reciprocated him that my statement gets generated on 20th and comes to me usually 24th or 25th every month. He said he will call me up and get the same by up-coming saturday(27th June). So by last saturday I went to their office and handed over my current credit card statement and PAN no.

During the handover of the credentials, the Creditcard Executive asked me numerous questions. To name a few..

1. Why do u want to go for SBI Credit card?
2. Where are u you currently working?
3. What is the monthly take-up sal and gross sal?

I got fed up and screwed him up.

Today from the morning I am getting continous calls from SBI Credit card, Phone banking Division to check my authentication of the details given in the Application form. They didn't have the courtesy to ask sorry, for disturbing me during work hours.

SBI is still working in the prevalent way of old age banking. During my interaction with my earlier banks for creditcard purchase, I didnot face much of this problem. They called me up on time and got my details collected ontime. So as a customer, I also liked to associate with them.

From the SBI Tagline I came to understand one thing. The will not be "With you- all the way" instead, "Trouble you-all the way".

Robinson Crusoe and Leadership

Posted by Sri Prasath Venkateswaran on May 25, 2006

I read Robinson Crusoe lot of times. I studied this book as my Non-detail during the English Prose class in my Seventh Standard. I read the full version, non-detailed version and I still find this book very interesting after reading countless amounts of time.

The story knot is very simple. Robinson Crusoe wants to loiter all around the world by means of the sea and starts his journey. Due to shipwreck, he lands in an uninhabited island. In an island when only cannibals are found around, he leads a very brave life.

He designs and makes in own Calendar, Bed, Lamp and firearm with the resources available over there. He saves Friday, who was about to be killed by a cannibal and teaches him English and the things he learnt from the island.

I found a lot of Managerial and Leadership ingredients in this book like Planning, Proper utilization of the available resources, face the problem with Courage and Dignity and a lottttttttttt.

Daniel Dafoe has pened this Novel about three centuries ago, with such simple and precise language. His script talks to the point and I don’t find any unwanted literature in this novel. This book is a must for  all the Leader aspirants…

The New Bond

Posted by Sri Prasath Venkateswaran on May 24, 2006

Pierce Brosnan I am an ardent fan of James Bond. Ian Fleming(The man who behind the creation of James Bond) was instrumental to pen punch dialogues in the James Bond Movies. Though Ian Fleming and the Albert Brocouli(Film Producer) is not with us today, Their Sibling continues their choosen path.

We have seen a lot of Bonds like Sean ConnerDaniel Craigy, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and the new debut bond Daniel Craig.

I like Pierce Brosnan for his charm and majestic appearance which, attracted me very much. His Movies as Jamebond like Goldeneye, Tomorrow never dies and The World is not enough still makes me to corner the cushion even today.

Let us see how the transistion from Brosnan to Daniel Craig makes an impact in charismatic appearance of JamesBond. I have to still wait for 6 months to view the New Bond who makes his appearance in the movie "Casino Royale".

No Power..No Water.. No Life?

Posted by Sri Prasath Venkateswaran on May 23, 2006

Sunday being a holiday everyone rejoices. Last  Sunday, I totally had a bad experience. Power went off early in the morning sometime around 6 AM. Due to the absence of power, there was no water for emergency purpose during the dawn of the day.

I got fed up and went to EB office FOC Cell. The attender was too lethargic and gave me uninterested answers. The devil in me woked up and I said to the attender " If you don't restore power within 2 hours, I have to complain to the AnnaNagar MLA". The guy questioned at me "Sir, we are at Perambur, why should you go to AnnaNagar MLA instead of going to Perambur MLA?"

I replied "You guys don't know who the Electricity minister is? Anna Nagar MLA is the Electricity Minister. You People work in a department without knowing who the minister is?"

He got panicked. He called the JE, and the JE assured that the power will be restored within an hour's time. I left EB office and while reaching home, I found that power has been restored already.

What I learnt from this incident is that even though if u don't know people directly in the Government, Atleast staying updated about the latest happenings in the surroundings will help you always.
